THIRTEEN MONTHS OLD!

Current Weight: 16700g
Current Length: 83cm (roughly)
Current Size: 4-5

Time continues to fly by, and she'll be having her second birthday before we know it! hehe

This month the little miss has become very independent and is determined to prove to us that she does not need our help with ANYTHING! She wants to feed herself, dress herself, change the channels on the TV herself, climb up onto things by herself - just to name a few. With things that she clearly struggles with and needs a hand with - she will push us away and get frustrated if we don't leave her to accomplish something on her own. It makes us proud that she is so willing to try new things by herself but it can also be very frustrating when she is too stubborn to let us help her. But it does show that she has good ambition and motivation to not give up on something which is a great thing!

She is very clever indeed but sometimes too clever for her own good! Just when we think we have her fooled - she outsmarts us! Like putting something out of her reach and thinking that it's safely out of the way - she'll have a little brainstorm and figure out a way to get it! Even going as far as pushing her toybox towards the hidden object and climbing onto it to reach it! Clever little cookie! She has also learnt how to take her own nappy off - which is a pain in the butt! So we have to put shorts on her to stop her from doing it.

She's talking a lot more too now - learning new words and using them often. She is learning her ABC's at the moment and has the tune of it very well but gets her letters jumbled. It comes out more like A,B,D,C,B,B,Beeee - it's very cute! She is understanding sentences very well too and can follow our instructions. It's funny - she really surprises me because I just don't really expect her to know what I'm talking about sometimes when I instruct her to do something - but I test it out anyway and sure enough she shows me that she understands.

Like I usually collect a book and sit down with her to read it to her, but the other day I was feeling pretty lazy while sitting on the couch - so I said to her "Go pick out a book and bring it to Mama to read to you." I honestly was not expecting her to understand that at all - I know she knows what 'book' is - but did not expect her to understand my instruction of her going to collect one to bring to me. But sure enough I was blown away when she immediately rushed over to her book shelf. I watched her hunt through her books like she didn't want just any book - but a particular one which was really cute and when she finally decided on one she toddled over to me with it, handed it to me and then climbed on the couch next to me to get comfy and ready for me to read it to her. It was so adorable and I was very impressed that she could understand my instruction.

I was excited to show Dan so as soon as he got home from work I said to Kayla "Go pick out a book and take it to Dada to read to you" and sure enough she did it again and took her favourite book straight to him. It also proved to us that she now knew us as 'Mama' and 'Dada' - I wasn't too sure if they were still just words to her or if she actually associated the words to us - which she obviously had done. But what was even more impressive was that I decided to test it on our cat Bart (Sounds funny I know - but I just wanted to test how far she could undertsand.) So this time I said "Take your book to Bart so he can read it to you." Dan and I were giggling because it was a very silly request and unlikely that she would even try it, but SHE DID! She climbed off the couch away from Dan, picked up her book and climbed up onto the other couch to where Bart was sitting and handed him the book! HAHA! Dan and I were in fits of laughter - but also blown away that she actually did it!

Her and Bart have formed quite a close bond actually it's very sweet. They adore eachother and Bart hardly leaves her side! He's very protective of her and follows her everywhere and she is very gentle with him. She says his name perfectly (she's been able to say it since she was much younger.) But it's so cute because when he's not in the room she calls for him "BAARRRRRT" and he comes to her every time. I'd never leave them unattended together though and am always close by keeping an eye on them to make sure neither of them get too rough with each other (ya just never know!)

Here's a wee clip of them going for a little walk together...

She's at that stage now where she is testing our authority and seeing how far she can push things and discovering her rights from wrongs. At the start of this month she was really testing our patience - curiosity would get the better of her and when she wasn't allowed something - she wanted it even more. It could be something she wasn't particularly interested in but the minute she realised she was not allowed to do something or touch something - she suddenly wanted it simply because she wasn't allowed it. Like with the power points!!! She never really showed interest in them but she was poking around them one day and I instantly said "NO - that's naughty Kayla - not allowed to touch!" So since then she was like "ooooo - this must be fun then if I'm not allowed near it!" and she would flick the switches every chance she'd get the second we'd turn out backs!

But since then she has actually been very well behaved and now listens to us when we tell her no. As much as she desperately wants to get her hands on something - a simple "no" has stopped her and she will stay away from it like a good little girl! Every time she does what she is told - we praise her with cuddles and kisses and tell her she's a good girl - so I think that has really helped. We are so proud of her for being so well behaved... for now! hehe

Kayla's First Year Photo Book!

I've finally completed Kayla's first year photo book! I've taken the text from each of my posts along with my favourite photos throughout the year and have put them all into this one little book for a great keepsake. It has taken me a year to make and I have put many hours of hard work into designing it! So I am so thrilled to finally have it finished and can't wait to get it published!

Here is a sneak peak...

Message for Kayla (as written on the last page)...

To my Sweet Bubette,

I look forward to the life we'll share, To pamper you and plait your hair,
To laugh with you and wipe your tears, To help you overcome your fears.

To teach you all you'll want to know, Like how birds fly and flowers grow,

So many things - I can not wait, From your first drawing to your first date,

Each night I lay you down to sleep, I gently kiss your face a heap,

I tuck you in and dim the light, I whisper, "I love you" every night.
A tear of joy runs down my cheek, I turn my head for one last peek,

I miss you when I close the door, Each day I love you even more.

I've loved you from the very start, You stole my breath, embraced my heart,

Our life together has just begun, You're part of me my little one...

All my love, Mummy xx
